The theme for this issue is “A Sense of Something.” In society today we are constantly expected and being asked to achieve our goals in a “quick, easy, and cheap” way. We wanted to take the opportunity to reconsider the things that can perhaps be discovered through a more daily or regulated routine, something that can only be felt from a gradual accumulation, to think about the meaning of taking your time to approach your intended destination without taking any shortcuts. This issue was put together with these sorts of thoughts in mind.

We spoke to a diverse set of subjects including artists, designers, writers, crafts people, alongside other creators who are certainly connected to our modern societies of today, yet they occupy a space in time that contrasts the general flow of the world around them by honestly coming face to face with their sense of self in their life's work as they share their sensibilities with others close to them. As always though, this issue will strive to offer plentiful amounts of content that will introduce undiscovered crafts, art and culture from all over the world. We plan to share a wealth of beautiful visuals alongside comprehensive copy for your discovery.

About “Subsequence”

The tagline of “Subsequence” is “Arts & Crafts for the Age of Eclectic.” This experimental project will cover a wide range of arts, crafts and cultures, inclusive to all ages, genders and nationalities, featuring both Japanese and International contributors.

Based on the guiding principle of unfolding new and untold stories that come from individual perspectives, we aim to create a magazine in the spirit of passionate craftsmen and artisans who love their craft. We offer these stories to anybody with an interest in living a creative life or immersing themselves in culture. We hope to publish stories that have been overlooked in recent years, and to provide a vehicle for readers to explore and experience new and undiscovered worlds. The exact timing of publication will vary with the travels of our storytellers. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more.
